I’ve been in love with our 1999 Mercedes SL500 for 14 years, since we bought it used. It’s been babied (garaged, low mileage, no door dents), and Drive European has been instrumental in maintaining and repairing all the old worn out stuff. Helps keep our “classic” car running strong. My 1988 MB died on the road and had to be towed to Drive European. Despite the lack of an appointment or any prior notice, got it back on Thursday. Not always easy getting parts for a 30-year old Mercedes.

I have a new Mini Cooper and I purchased a trailer hitch on eTrailer.com and I needed to have it installed so that I can use a hitch-mounted bike rack. It came with installation instructions, and I could see that it would be complicated (most of the back “shell” of the car below the hatchback would need to be removed). The dealership will not install non-Mini equipment, and I did not want to entrust UHaul with my perfect little Mini. I saw the excellent reviews for Drive European. I was not disappointed. The hitch looks as beautiful as a hitch can possibly look and it works perfectly with my new Thule rack. These guys can do anything car-related. They are a great team. Give them a call.

Took X-3 in for service including tire rotation. Fully expected tire inflation to be checked, but it was not. Instead of 32 psi in front and 36 psi in rear. Found 38 psi in RF 30 psi in LF 35 psi in RR and 31 psi in LR. Took vehicle to gas station and inflated tires properly myself.

I have taken my cars to Drive European for almost twenty years. I’ve purchased two cars, and used their recommendation after inspection on a third car. More than the quality of work what I’ve appreciated most has been the access to talk to Sam or the mechanics to get an understanding of what is wrong with the car, what may have caused it, and what the options are. I remember a couple of instances where the fix could be made with either a new part, a used part or a re-manufactured part giving me a choice that impacted the cost. I have referred a couple of friends to Drive European when they were in the market for a car and they were glad I did. Good service, they don’t push what you don’t really need. Dedicated staff, they stayed after hours to finish my car on a Friday, didn’t finish until after 8:00 PM. Only downside is dealing with an independent shop, so they’re “lean”: no weekend hours, no loaners, they’ll pick you up at East Falls Church Metro during shop hours. I’ve ditched the dealers for service because they’re overpriced, not as good at the work as DE, and they treat you like a 2nd class citizen when you’re trying to keep an old car on the road (’99 328i). I’ll keep going back to DE for as long as we’re able to keep it on the road.

The power steering went out on my Tundra. I’ve never had a regular place for servicing this vehicle, and little service has been needed. My most recent experience had been with Merchant Auto and Tire. I took the Tundra there for an oil change and asked them to tighten the hand brake which was not holding properly. How difficult can that be? Bad experience. So, I decided to take the Tundra, not a European vehicle, to Sam, who has expertly cared for my BMW and Jaguar. The Tundra needed a new rack and pinion. When I picked it up, it didn’t seem quite right. Turned out the factory part had not been pre-set for the proper turning radius as it is supposed to be. Also one bushing was leaking a little. But Sam took it back and corrected it for free, which obviously involved considerable labor for them. But Sam did what he does: put the customer first. The Tundra is good as new–well, as nearly so as a 15-year old truck with 160+k on it can be. Oh yes, and he replaced the gas tank door that had rotted away at the hinges also, even though that’s not a mechanical but a body shop kind of thing. Maybe he wouldn’t want me to mention that!

Sam and MIke are absolutely fabulous! We have had the best experiences with Drive European. We are keeping alive a 1999 SL500 with 110k miles, which is no small task. We are just not ready to give up “Little Blackie” and are so happy to have found Drive European. In past two years, they have done routine service but also replaced hydraulics in the convertible top and the AC. Expensive, yes, but necessary. Then a few weeks ago, brake job and a few valve replacements. They are honest and responsive and have all the diagnostic Mercedes Benz tools. I live in Arlington and could easily go to the dealership a mile away, but I feel like dealership prices are about 20% higher. Drive European typically keeps my car for a couple or three days, so they drop me off at Falls Church Metro station so I can return home to Clarendon, and then and pick me up when the car is ready a couple days later.

Expensive but that was expected for the major repairs. Car seems to be driving very well and received great service as always. One thing – i noticed a while after picking up my car that the windshield wiper blades were no longer there (I guess they removed them and forgot to put them back on)…this would have been a bigger issue had it started raining. Hopefully no other critical parts were forgotten too.

Thank you for giving us your feedback. The wipers were not removed during service and we verified that they were not touched by any of our staff members. As you know, the wipers are quite concealed in this model and one may not notice them missing right away (unless turned on of course). While it is possible that someone unknown to us removed them while the car was parked outside; it is equally possible that his happened while the car was in your possession. In any case thanks for understanding and I hope the new wipers we gave you stay put.

Mike and Sam are AWESOME! Sam knew my turn signal might not pass inspection although it had passed in the past. It came through with flying colors and did not have to have the lamp replaced. I was ready to fly in from out of state to purchase a car I had finally found from a dealership nearby Sam’s shop. I really wanted an unbiased opinion of the car’s condition before I jumped on a plane and after a quick web search found Drive European. The guys seemed very knowledgeable and accomodating after a phone call. I arranged for the dealership to drop off the car and the guys gave it a thorough look over, reassuring me that this was, indeed, an opportunity I should not pass up. Sam gave me a detailed debrief of what they found, including a few rear end marks that needed some touch up. If I had any criticism at all it would be that they missed a very minor door ding on the right rear fender and the the price was a bit steep for what a similar inspection would cost in my town; but this was money well spent for peace of mind before taking the plunge. Overall my experience with Drive European has been very positive. Their communication skills are very good. I took in my 2001 Golf TDI for a whole list of problems: AC Compressor, Front Brake replacement, Glow Plugs fault, Replace Timing Belt, Hatchback lock replacement, Headlight left on warning chime and dash board lights fault. It wasn’t cheap to fix these problems and a lot of troubleshooting was required. However, throughout I was given precise technical details of the fault diagnoses and remedial actions along with prices for each item before any work or parts were ordered. They also focussed on equipment repair rather than the easier parts replacement route used by less experienced workshops. I was given a break on some of the labor to soften the blow a little. That was a very smart customer service move on a bill approaching 4k dollars. Recommended!

I don’t know much about cars so it’s important I work with a repair chop I can trust. Plus I have a Mini-Cooper and not everyone knows how to work on Minis..but Drive European does! Sam has pointed out in the past when I’ve had parts under factory warranty that I could take back to the dealership to fix at no charge. I have a feeling other repair shops would have charged me to replace the part because I would have never known it was still under warranty.

18 years ago I was lucky enough to stumble on DriveEuropean, of course it was a different name, owned by a great man who Sam worked with and eventually sold it to Sam. For 18 years he has serviced everyone of my Mercedes, Chryslers, Jeeps, BMWs and as much as I try to get him to work on my Rolls Royce; he is man of integrity and honestly. He just would not do it justice to his quality criteria. That is why I continue to drive 2 hours from WV for an oil change, new tires, brakes and this last one which no dealership in the DC area could fix was to bypass the teleaid system to get our radio working again. If you are a smart person and really do read and believe reviews then go in and introduce yourself to Sam and start a lifelong relationship of excellence.

I’m a car guy. I know a good car when I drive it. I read about cars. I talk cars with guys who know cars. I haven’t repaired a car since the 1979 Audi 5000 I owned which was a beautifully simple car to work on. And I do not pretend to be an expert in diagnosis, but I know b.s. when I hear it. You won’t hear any from Sam. I own a unique Jaguar. I would probably have had to sell this car, except for Sam. I own a BMW that had a problem the dealer said was not a problem but Sam immediately recognized and understood the problem. Before that was fixed, I was ready to get rid of the car. I have an aging Toyota truck that I would sell, except that I know Sam can keep it going.

the bumper was not put on correctly. It is crooked. I took my car back to Drive European on 6/18 for Marco to inspect the car. He agreed with the mis-aligned bumper and asked me to bring the car back on Wednesday or later this week. Drive European was very responsive and apologized for the error.

As the owner of four 5+ year old cars; Drive European is a Godsend that makes keeping them a pleasure. I’ve been spoiled my entire life – my dad is a mechanic and I’ve never had to take my car to an auto body for a tune-up. I recently moved away from home and had a huge repair that needed to be made to my car. My dad, being protective of me and his vehicles, made me do a lot of research to find a reliable and affordable auto body in the area. A friend of mine recommended Drive European and I couldn’t have been more impressed. They sent me a detailed report of the problems, the estimated amount for parts and labor, and requested my permission before proceeding. Once the work began, they kept me updated on timeline to finish. Overall customer service was excellent. Not only did they do good work on my car, but they went above and beyond by walking my dad through the project as well as providing me with a ride to and from the Metro. I will definitely go back to this place if I have future car troubles.

The work is done right, on time and there are no surprises when it comes time to pay the bill. Sam tells you what he did and why. I am not a mechanic so I tell him he is wasting his time explaining it to me. He will tell you what needs to be done in the future and give you an estimate of when he expects you will need the service. Of Course you will have to have visited him several times so he has a feel for your driving habits. It’s hard to find a good mechanic. I’ve found one in Sam.
